Well Jeff and I first tournament didn’t go as well, but an opportunity for a learning experience. We only ended up with one 1.36lb LM, which we caught in the first 10minutes of the morning. For sure in the early pre spawn stages and couldn’t repeat the bite. A lot of other anglers struggled as well, several zeros, except 3-4 who caught them well 14-17lb bags. Long story short, something to learn from and looking forward to breaking this down.
If you could change 1 thing about yourself to make you a better angler what would that be? For me it'd be getting back to the basics. Watching the recap of B.Lat's last tournament and watching him throw the "ball and chain" aka Carolina rig around touched home with me. I grew up throwing the C-rig. I've spent thousands on electronics and figure I'd better use my FFS, when in fact the older techniques are proven techniques that can flat out catch them.
Saturday’s Tournament California cold front pushed in and snowed on us .

One of my favorite lakes that I have been to. What lake do you think it is?
FYI, as a 2025 SUF School angler development selectee, I wanted to document my BFL journey this season through video. It's my first year moving from club tournaments to the BFL. Ken and I are fishing the Northeast division of the BFL, and I'm creating this series to share everything I learn or things I can share. They are mostly me just rambling, LOL
I just posted Episode 2, where I break down my tournament gear and boat setup.

Mack Toon and I were discussing the new Berkley Forward braid during a round table.
A lot of what I do is testing gear. Long story short, while the “Forward” model of the Berkley braid absolutely casts further than Daiwa J-Braid or PowerPro x8 with less effort… it has just too many weird negatives to continue to use after a month of thorough testing 5+ days a week. I’m restringing my spinners right now.
Save your money. I can’t recommend it in good conscience.
I did a workshop on fishing a Carolina rig this week!!!
