I've only dealt with this one time. It was for smallmouth on lake Oneida. IT WAS AWEFUL ! We didn't change our fishing much at all actually. The fish continued to bite. We just started using a Carolina rig and other bottom dragging lures. I couldn't believe how green the water was that year. I think you told me that you fish for largemouth there. If so I think I would go as shallow as possible in the bays and creeks. Moving water should theoretically be less impacted by the bloom too.

talked about this in the Q and A today!

It's kind of subjective. Up north sometimes it's best not to use to much action. Usually those bodies of water have more current. There's also more drifting involved as well. That makes it easier to give action to the lure. In most circumstances this works for me best. I would encourage you to experiment with different retrieves!

you're right! it takes so much energy to get back in the boat. You're fortunate it wasn't cold water. It paralyzes you so much. I'm glad this turned out to be a wake up call and not a tragic accident. This is also a great example of why it's important to always fish with a partner if you can. Thanks for sharing your story with us.

I haven’t had that issue but I can tell you this. There’s really only 2 fishing reel companies that you can truly expect a long time of use out of. SHIMANO AND DIAWA. I’ve used 13. They’re good reels. It’s just not a shimano. I use them now and lews as well. Pretty good reels but just don’t have the technology that shimano and daiwa have.

Ken was this on the river you mentioned you'd be going to fish this week? We'll have to get you on a hot seat to talk about your experience on the next live class.
