Have a tournament coming up this weekend. Friday-Sunday looking at a significant cold front with nightly temps in the high 20’s and days in the 40’s but sunny. Wind 17-20mph. Current water temps are in the high 40’s low 50’s. Bass are currently pre spawn, roaming out in front of docks or on the front posts of docks in shallow protected pockets. Will be targeting LMB. There is a mix of clear, stained, and muddy water. Practiced over the weekend and caught them in all 3 water clarities. No weeds have grown yet. I rewatched a lot of our videos, but wanted to see what your thoughts were?

These two bass came from a completely different area. These fish came from more stain water where there was a creek flowing in to the pocket. The water was much more stain and it was warm because today’s rain was a warm rain. In this particular area, there was a lot of bait Shed Thrift and Chad to be exact. My bait of choice to catch these fish was a Zman chatterbait Evo edition in 3/8 ounce. I used a white and chartreuse and a grim colored one. My trailer for the chatterbait was a Zman Grimmlin I think the key to catching these fish was where I was actually putting the Chatterbait. I was running to chatterbait in less than a foot at all times, throwing it directly parallel with the shoreline.  If I let my chatterbait get in anything deeper than a foot and a half maybe 2 foot I could not get it. The key was throwing shallow end really fast to get the reaction bite.

Today was a interesting day of fishing. It rained most of the day. Most of the time you would think that would be an adverse condition for catching a lot of bass. But trust me it’s not. Today my focus was on dead in pockets that had more stable and warmer water. I was using a Texas rig Grimmlin with a 3/16 ounce sinker and 4/0 hook. my main focus was any type of horizontal wood that could be laydowns or a stump. If there was any inconsistency in the pocket, there was usually a bass on it. Most of my bites came on the fall. That’s why I use the light sinker.
