My boat is a 2009

I did it 3 times in a row, twice throwing the lure over the side of the boat. That was the worst. After that time, I have gotten a little better and tug on the lure before throwing it over.

I don't think most tournaments have a year limit on boats. Just ensure your boat is safe and meets the tournament’s specific rules, which you should be able to look up. Almost all say your horsepower cannot exceed the USCG sticker.

To prepare my boat for a tournament, I focus on the following:

Maintenance: Keep the boat, motor, and wiring/electronics in reliable working condition.

Livewell: Ensure that it is well-aerated and functional.

Comfort: Organize the boat to make it comfortable for myself.

Safety Gear: Always have life jackets, a first aid kit, and a fire extinguisher on board.

Remember, the fish don’t care about your boat, but a well-maintained one makes your experience better!

The game changer for me on trolling motors is to make sure you have spot lock. I have Lowrance graphs and a Ghost - the connectivity is nice. The Ghost has been very good to me and I would also say make sure you take care of it maintenance wise.
