I fish mostly ponds here in Florida which has no moving water... what's the best way fish these situations.. I'm still catching them shallow but hit miss

Not as muddy here in Florida is a spinner bait good to throw now?  I've been trying a chatterbait and swimjig with decent results

I'm using reels with magnetic brakes now which I'm still learning.. is there a benefit in using reels with the dual braking system

Do you think you can still be competitive without forward facing sonar? Seems like only a few guys do not use it.
