Nathan Sipes even in the middle of the lake, you can use a crank bait as a search bait to see what is on the bottom. Figure out the depth from the boater then throw a crank that will get down that deep. If the treble hooks scare you, throw a jig around and slow roll it across the bottom

I was started off with the classic zebco 33. If you want to step up from that, I agree with Brian on the spinning reel, but I would caution with that because of the wind knots. If you can teach her to flip the bell before winding the handle then your good. I believe Brian Latimer did a video a couple of years ago on that very thing. Maybe he can post here as a reminder. 😁

Of you are beating the bank, then figure out wind direction from your location and that will help you decide where to throw. Lay downs near the bank will provide current breaks depending on wind direction.

1 fish was drilled in me by my dad when he would captain my high school tournaments. Typically if you weigh 1 fish in a high school tourney, you are getting points and you will advance to regionals and so on. So brakeing it down that way makes it easier on the mind.

If you are a co-angler, and your boater is rushing then you can match his speed with your technique. If he is flipping, I would throw a moving bait because he is going to flip and sit or dap around as he moves through an area. You throwing a moving bait allows you to cover all the water he is not. Now if he is throwing. Moving bait, I would change to a jig or a wacky rig worm. You can flip it towards the mid-boat line and just let it sit. As you come parallel to your bait, click the thumb bar and let the line free spool till it gets to the back of the boat.at the back of the boat, reel up and rinse and repeat. With you soaking the bait, it always the roaming fish to key in on it and strike... That is what I would do. Let me know how that works for you.

Depending on how many younger anglers you have on here, the summers months are better but not always better fishing. This could be a good youth/parent trip as well.

As a younger angler I tend to want to throw the tackle box at it. The way I keep myself focused is to stick to what I know. Running the same stuff over and over since I know those areas hold fish. I try to slow down and keep that confidence bait in my hand working those spots. Also, I try not to focus on the time. I work for 1 fish at a time. Every fish is 1 fish.. Then 1 fish.. And so on till I am at 5. I don't care about size to start.. Just a fish. The last thing I do is change up my approach to an area. If I always work it left to right, then when I go back to it I work it right to left. I tell my self that maybe the fish are facing the other direction so I go about It the other way...
