I fish a lot of swimjigs running them in the pads up here and something I donā€™t hear a lot of people ever fishing for pre spawn is a Topwater frog šŸø soon as I see 50 degree water temps Ive always got a frog on my deck. Canā€™t forget the chatterbait though okā€¦. And dropshot

Adam Joubert I think they are outta Texas. They have some good rods I like them and I have gloomis rods I got rods from cheaper to expensive and I think their good quality I look at the build of the blanks and compare.

Adam Joubert well glad your getting back into it!! If you havenā€™t tried sixgill rods they have some sales going on still I believe where certain rods are like $65 right now I like their heimdall jerk bait rod for small Texas rigs itā€™s like a 6ā€™5 medium itā€™s a nice rod and for the price canā€™t be beat. I like finding their sales

Adam Joubert yes me too I fished a lot more and then we had a kid and I canā€™t get out as much so when I do Iā€™m able to look at the journal and already have a game plan before I hit the lake. Once my kiddo is old enough Iā€™ll get him on the boat and be able to go more but until then I enjoy getting out when I can. Also one day I can give them to my kid and he could use them or read through them and learn something from them. What I find is pretty fun with them is looking back at pictures on my phone and be able to see in my journal for that day the baits and ways I was catching them.

Adam Joubert I have if I find the lake is setup similar and itā€™s helped me. For me itā€™s the most helpful for figuring out how they react with the weather, time of year and like I was saying being where Iā€™m at I canā€™t fish all year and it ices over so being able to look at my log from the year before eliminates a lot of guess work when I get out in the beginning of season cause I can also identify which of the lakes I fish generally spawns first. Thereā€™s a lake that I know next month that they generally start spawning smallmouth and they have a specific spot of that lake that I crush them on a red square bill 2-5ā€™ diver but the thing I noticed from my log was I could see what weather pattern I really caught them in.

I use a log with that info you said what I caught them on, weather, depth etc that way when you go back the following year it just makes it easier to eliminate a lot of what didnā€™t work and what does work.

Iā€™m gonna be picking some up next month and and Iā€™ll keep that info in mind.

Chatterbaits are awesome if you get some I recommend the z man evo. Good price point they start up super fast good vibration. I used to use the originals till I tried the evo and I wouldnā€™t go back to the cheap ones.
