A couple of fish; more importantly, I am not bundled up for winter. Spring may have sprung. :-)
Here's my PB Largemouth ... A present I gave myself on Christmas Day 2024.... Oconee River, Dublin, Georgia. On an old school texas rigged black & Blue worm... 24.25", 7.62lbs.. (should've weighed 8lbs, some people say)...
Fun day today. Caught probably 30-35 on the Upper Chesapeake with a custom crankbait, Colorado blade spinnerbait, and a creature bait. At one point we were catching them almost every other cast. Not huge ones but probably a 16-17# bag if we were in a derby.
Rocking the jersey for the big tournament later this year to raise money for research for my son’s auto immune disease.
So what do you think we are looking at? It was close to a point, a flat, and a saddle. I definitely think the shad spawning too (second picture). So I thought maybe catfish, but with the last video "Catching Spawning Bass" I think it could be bass spawning deeper since it is on Lake Juliette which has clear water.
5lbs 9oz, 21 1/4” on a 1/8oz Purple Rain SMH kit. Usied a Level NGSX610LF with a 1000 size Stradic spinner. Everything used except the reel was bought at the SUF retreat.
Last tournament. Not a great day and had a game plan on some new water. Weather forecast changed that morning and didn’t make adjustments fast enough. Smaller one was on a whopper plopper in the morning and then went looking for offshore structure in the depth I was seeing fish. The bigger was 4.75 on an offshore stump. Lesson learned.
Crazy to say but never really got into fishing with a jig. Decided to go to the local pond to give it a try and went with the trusty PB&J. Got two and the first one DEMOLISHED it. My friend told me a jig bite is awesome and man he was right.
That was fun!
Okay, the confidence is back. Today, I weighed 6 lbs 6.5 oz, 3 lbs 3 oz, and several 1 - 2 lbs. I had my wife with me for good luck. Water temperatures ranged from 48 to 55. The windy open water was 48, while the shallow isolated water was 55. The males were everywhere, including that shallow 55, while the females seemed deeper and tight to cover. I had my confidence bait and rod: a Genesis rod - 7'0" Med-Heavy Fast and a 3/8 oz jig with 3-inch trailers, color green/brown.
Spring time+ stained water+ lay downs+ spinner bait= !?!?! Catfish !?!?! Lake Juliette math ain't mathin'!!! Have y'all ever caught a catfish on a bass bait?
