If you could change 1 thing about yourself to make you a better angler what would that be? For me it'd be getting back to the basics. Watching the recap of B.Lat's last tournament and watching him throw the "ball and chain" aka Carolina rig around touched home with me. I grew up throwing the C-rig. I've spent thousands on electronics and figure I'd better use my FFS, when in fact the older techniques are proven techniques that can flat out catch them.
So my recent banter with Nathan Sipes reminded me of my 15 minutes as a viral international legend in 2022... Hope the links work. It was definitely a day of work I will never forget. Enjoy!
Was able to get out with one of my buddyās son today. In a 20 boat field, 11 skunks made an appearance on the board. We were fortunate to finish 5th. Youth really know how to keep you in a positive mindset when on the water!
Sorry Iāve been playing hookie from class! Happy Easter all!
Well Jeff and I first tournament didnāt go as well, but an opportunity for a learning experience. We only ended up with one 1.36lb LM, which we caught in the first 10minutes of the morning. For sure in the early pre spawn stages and couldnāt repeat the bite. A lot of other anglers struggled as well, several zeros, except 3-4 who caught them well 14-17lb bags. Long story short, something to learn from and looking forward to breaking this down.
Okay, the confidence is back. Today, I weighed 6 lbs 6.5 oz, 3 lbs 3 oz, and several 1 - 2 lbs. I had my wife with me for good luck. Water temperatures ranged from 48 to 55. The windy open water was 48, while the shallow isolated water was 55. The males were everywhere, including that shallow 55, while the females seemedĀ deeperĀ and tight to cover. I had my confidence bait and rod: a Genesis rod - 7'0" Med-Heavy Fast and a 3/8 oz jig with 3-inch trailers, color green/brown.
Find the beds then found the fish.. in only 3ft of water
Got my āflukeāon today. Twitching it through the grass and letting it sink near a laydown worked today at my local reservoir. Best one was 17 1/2 inches.
This is good information! Iām working on setting up my internet in the boat tomorrow so we can film on the water! Maybe even during the tournaments at times.
A couple of fish; more importantly, I am not bundled up for winter. Spring may have sprung. :-)
