Well I don’t think I will be fishing for a while. Lake is 30 feet above winter pool. Along with the river being flooded.
Ice is out, people's peirs and docks are going in. First kayak outing is about going to take place for 2025 and at my go to lake! Hop in, push off do about 3 or 4 paddles... you know normal routine right for a kayaker... set the motorguide in and........... FREAKING NOTHING!!! 😡🤬😤 COMPLETE FAILURE. Screwed around floating away for 5 min or so, padded a whole 3 or 4 more strokes back to the landing and fished from the landing dock with a broken heart! I think the motor finally burned up, I've put that thing through the rigger for 3 years now i believe, its been good to me. Thank the Lord I held onto the one I won from the retreat last March! Got to get that one rigged up next weekend and regroup for round two!
Jacob Wilcox and Corey Richardson y'all be careful on Sinclair and Oconee. Saw pictures of a boathouse floating away. Also read there are spring breakers out driving crazy even with all the debris... Stay safe and leave me some fish to catch!
Good evening SUF Family.
I’d like to nominate my fellow Straight Up Fishing School classmate and friend, Mack Toon, for the fishing trip with Brian Latimer.
Mack has been a true asset to this community from day one. Whether it’s answering questions, giving honest feedback, or sharing tips that actually work, he’s always showing up and helping others. You’ll find him in every live class, fully engaged and contributing to the conversation.
What really sets Mack apart is his willingness to give back. He drove over two hours just to help me out at my very first fishing tournament, no questions asked. That speaks volumes about the kind of person he is. And let’s not forget that legendary junk fishing class he led. If you were there, you know exactly what I mean. It was packed with knowledge and straight-up fire.
Mack doesn’t do it for attention, he does it because he genuinely wants to see others win. That’s the kind of energy this community thrives on, and I can’t think of anyone more deserving of this opportunity.
Let’s get Mack on that boat with B-Lat!
WTF, Come On…. 29 with 20+ MPH winds and it feels like 9
🚨Hey SUFam! Please let me know if would like to host a Roundtable. We have an open spot next week Wednesday, the 30th, and in May! Send me a text if you need more info or want to get on the calendar.
Hey everyone!
Just wanted to say hello from Midland, Texas! I got into the kayak tournament scene mid last year and instantly fell in love with it. Kayak tournament fishing has become a real passion of mine—I even started documenting the journey on YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram. Super glad to be a part of the Straight Up Fishing community and looking forward to all the great conversations, tips, and stories ahead!
Tight lines!

Landed this one and a channel cat lost another bass and missed a few bites. Lake Talquin Florida.
Foot note: God bless co-angler, it’s not for me.
What’s everyone experiencing right now with the weather? Fishing was on fire in the southern TN / northern MS area and then we had terrible weather for nearly a week. Now, it’s cool temps again.
