John G W. I think you could pick any bait that sutes you. As long as you fish the line. I think a drop shot could work too.

I’m working with my nephews and niece now who have only been fishing a few times. What it seems like they need help with most is what bait they should use where and why. Example is when the they fish a pond with a ton of weeds, use a walking frog. Or throw a wacky rig at one of the holes. I send them baits with written instructions on how and where to use.

I use to fish mudlines on Lake Erie for Smallmouth. I would jig tubes right on the edge of the mudline. The bass would hide and then pop out to grab the bait.
