Our fishing club has released the 2025 Tournament schedule. We are from Northern Virginia and a majority of the tournaments are on the Potomac River. This year we do have tournaments on Kerr Reservoir and Lake Gaston on the NC border. Smith Mountain Lake in southwest Virginia along with Lake Anna and Chickahominy River in central Virginia. Our club is unique with low membership ($35) and $10 tournament fees that go to support two free kid’s fishing derbies. We share how we caught fish and what structure type but not location. There is no real money to win but that doesn’t mean they are not competitive. I have been a co-angler for 3 years and I would encourage everyone to join a fishing club because you learn so much. Most clubs are in desperate need for co-anglers as I find a ride easily. Plus, I meet boaters that I get to bonus fish outside of tournaments.

The snow is slowly melting and the forecast for next week will have the temps in the mid 40’s. Maybe I can get out and try some cold water cranking. 🎣

2 of my fishing club buddies traveled to Florida to get some fishing in. They are now reporting 6 inches of snow on the ground. 🥶☃️

Don’t paint the John boat. It needs the battle scars to show it has been used. The fish don’t care.

So I’m working on snow/ice on my gravel driveway and I noticed this that relates to fishing. Our temperature this week have been below freezing all day long but mostly sunny. So the gravel still heats up and is melting the frozen snow. Each day we are getting a fraction more daylight so imagine why the fish like rock in cold water. As long as the sun can reach the rock in the waterway it will heat up no matter the water temperature. The bigger the rock surface the more heat potential. Be intentional when fishing!
