12 1/2 inchers were biting today on my local reservoir. Water was cloudy so used a chatterbait to get their attention. Would have liked something bigger but still a nice day on the water. 😀

Do we care at all about the fall rate ? If we are fishing over 10 feet , do we use a heavy weight to get it on the bottom faster? What’s your opinion on adding a rattle? What is the purpose of a trailer?

That’s a really nice fish! I’m sure you were caught up in the moment. At least the picture was good so you have a record of the catch.

Old timers are telling me about using “Silver Buddies” in deep water. Anyone got any experience?

Excellent, he is a good teacher. I have yet to catch a bass on a jig. Admittedly, I haven’t really committed to it to find out. Looking forward to hearing from Randy.

Somehow, if the fish are biting you don’t feel the cold.

Belmont has been good this year and I like along Burn Point Navy yard main river Maryland side outside of Mattawoman Creek.

My local reservoir has numerous points with deep water. Mostly rock structures but because of the water flow during rain storms there are numerous sunken tree branches and logs. Great places to fish and observe them on my electronics. Fish suspend a lot and the water is usually 8-20 feet in my target area. Water visibility is usually 6-12 inches. Very little current unless it rains alot. This reservoir is the county’s drinking water and is over 2,000 acres. This reservoir holds largemouth bass, catfish and crappie. Boat hp is limited to 9.9hp. Best chance in Virginia to catch 3-5 pound largemouth bass.

I’m not intimated to fish the locations, I get bites on a drop shot occasionally but that’s not fun fishing for me. This year I have been trying the 3-4 inch soft plastic swim bait on a jig head. I have caught very few fish and nothing of good size. What’s been frustrating is losing numerous jigs on the rocks and wood. Hard to stay confident to keep fishing when you “ feel “ the shoreline calling you (back to what you know). This waterway has long stretches of shoreline cover, structures and grass that produces for me.

Also, While crossing the channel I have seen my electronics light up with suspended baitfish at ten feet with water depth 40-50 feet. Rarely do I stop to fish because I don’t know what my next move would be with that information.
