There’s one area of a lake I frequent where I learned to not throw baits that make contact with the bottom. I didn’t know what was there, but through trial and error I knew I’d get hung or loose a lure if I threw a Texas rig over there. I assumed it was a gnarly stump or something, but today I finally got some answers 😂 this side scan thing is truly a gift!

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the subject on “how long to fish a area “ literally it hit me in my sleep this week. I think it’s the perfect sermon to preach at the Championship event in March.
Sometimes I know what I need to say in my brain but there’s a disconnect to be able to communicate this. I got y’all. This will be simple and easy to understand.

If you’re new here we’re hosting a Fishing retreat event on Lake Russel at Calhoun falls park State Park March 27-30.

The 27th-28th are fishing days

The 29th is our fishing seminar

The 30th is the SUF Classic Tournament

Bring a friend!

I got out today at Lake Anna in central Virginia with the forecast sunny and 50 degree air temperature. Ramp still had ice but a lane was opened from launch to the open water near by. We targeted two areas. An island with a shallow shelf and a deep drop off point. Then several points from two coves that had steep drop off channels. Upon arrival, we observed the seagulls diving after the bait. We thought we were in!
For the next two hours, we threw everything at the bait fish but no bites from bass or stripers. The seagulls continued and we could see the bait in their mouths. We threw lipless, crankbaits, spinnerbaits, wake baits, chatterbaits, Alabama rigs, scrounger, underspins and swim baits. No bites in the 39 degree water. Still glad I got out and was on the water. 😀

Hey SUF! If money were no object, I would make this purchase. UPDATE: I will pass on this boat; it is a fantastic deal! If you are interested, let me know, and I will put you in contact with the dealer.

Currently running: 2009 Stratos 294XL (19'6", 91" beam) with 2009 Evinrude ETEC 150HO flashed to 175HP on a single axle trailer. The boat's paid off and tournament-ready.

Considering: New leftover 2023 Falcon F215 (21'5", 99" beam) with Suzuki 250SS brand new

- Dealer asking $53K

- Monthly would be $580-680 (versus $0 on Stratos)

- Interest rates are around 7-10%

- Trade-in value on Stratos: $12-20K

Main pros: Wider deck, more power, bigger fuel tank (50 gal)

Main cons: A Higher payment than wanted, 7-10% interest rate

Would you pull the trigger or keep the paid-off Stratos? I'm especially interested in tournament performance difference, newer age, and whether the wider deck is worth the monthly payment.  BTW, a Stratos re-power would be $23-24K. One major sway factor - I hate debt.

Thanks for any insights!
